Care Plans
Your child will be cared for by a team of healthcare professionals. Doctors, residents (doctors taking additional training in pediatrics) and nurses who work in the PICU have special training in caring for children and teenagers who are critically ill. Our team also include respiratory therapists, pharmacists and dieticians.
Together, they will create a care plan for your child. Your child or teenager will have a care plan and will be used by his/her care team. This is basically a binder that is a 'work in progress and update regularly through his/her journey.. In it, you would find information such as your child's medical history, doctor's orders and other information parents or caregivers have provided to the nurses.
As parents, you’re an integral part of our team. Please raise any questions, concerns or ideas you may have as we welcome your involvement in your child’s care.
Rounds
Rounds are when your child's care team will receive an update on how your child did overnight. The team will then discuss your child's plan for the day and determine any appropriate tests, therapies or next steps.
We encourage parents or guardians to be present during rounds to learn about your child’s condition and participate in their care.
If you’re not able to be here, we welcome phone calls to discuss how your child is doing. Condition information will only be share with parents or legal guardians.
